This remaster is made from a reel of a 1976 performance featuring vocalese master Eddie Jefferson with Rashied Ali Quintet. Documented in the emerging downtown New York loft scene at Ali's Alley, Jefferson's art and career - which was overlooked for many years - was finally undergoing a deserved revival. This rare ensemble played two nights in July of which the latter is released here unedited. The selections are Jefferson classics; all original lyrics to bebop standards including the classic horn solos, which Jefferson interprets with his own spicy and witty sense of humor. This historical recording is a must for all singers and vocal jazz, vocalese and scat fans, not to mention jazz historians who will want to place this important recording in the collection of classic jazz performances.
